Some misconceptions about psychological treatment efficacy in perpetrators of IPVAW: A Comment to Redondo et al.

Pedro J. Horcajo-Gil

In Brief

Some methodological issues are discussed. The evidence for two clusters identified is questionable, markedly their stability. The men who participated and complete the intervention program were not compared with a control group of men not participating in a cognitive-behavioral intervention program. These aspects should have to be treated in the Redondo et al. (2019) study to support their comments about the effects of the intervention program.

Highlights

  • Two anger-clusters (subtypes) were identified through their control anger profile measured by STAXI-2
  • Stability of the anger based-typology of partner-violent men against women victims is questioned
  • A general differential response to psychological treatment typology-based was not found
  • But unexpected higher scores in Physical Aggression and Injuries were found in Overcontrolled group (OCA) at Post-treatment
  • The capacity to predict criminal justice recidivism by two anger-clusters typology was not found
